Ahh..Fall is in the Air and I love it!
Fall is my favorite season. I love the cooler weather and the shorter days. I think it comes from me being a comfort hound. A name my friend Wendy gave me years ago.
When I used to live on a farm, I loved getting the firewood stacked and the hay tucked in the barn ready for a long winter. Life is different now without my daily chores of cleaning the horses stalls and sweeping the alley way. Picking manure out of the paddocks and hauling water buckets around. I really miss that lifestyle. The hard work and the privacy acreage affords. Life changes though and now I still enjoy a woodshed full of firewood and cozy evenings playing canasta by the fire. Devouring garden books and magazines, planning changes for the spring garden is another favorite fall/winter pastime. I get some of my best ideas sitting on the window seat with a cuppa tea in hand gazing out at the garden.
I think it is the planning and dreaming I like the best about gardening. A close second is searching the nurseries for the treasures I'm seeking. Then the satisfaction of it all coming together as I had invisioned in my mind. I love gardening!

WOW!
Last night I was invited along to see a incredible garden. The garden was done a year ago by a local landscape designer. What makes this garden so wonderful is that it was made for a gentleman in a wheelchair.
The garden is quite large and is situated on a lovely waterfront lot. The cement paths are all done in smooth concrete with fern and other leave imprints in it. Gorgeous! The paths wind down into a lower area in the middle which is the firepit. There is no grass anywhere, just a major planting of mixed low growing plants. I wish I would have brought my camera!

Boring closeups
I've decided that instead of boring people with close-up after close-up, I will post most of these pictures to my photoblog. (www.sandyssnaps.blogspot.com.) I enjoy taking these types of photo's and want to continue in this direction. I have read on other peoples blogs that alot of people do not like alot of closeup pictures. I will still put some on my garden blog because I wouldn't be able to stop myself. I love them!

Blogging Burnout?
Nah! I love blogging but I admit I have been slacking off lately. The only thing I want to do garden wise right now is rip apart my rockwall garden and start again. The weather has finally cooled today but it has been so hot and dry that there is no way I can attempt that undertaking for awhile.
I just purchased Chelone lyonii and Salvia guaranitica'Black and Blue'. Has anyone tried that variety of Salvia before? The hummers are suppost to like it.
Another thing that is bugging me is my weeping Katsura tree. I paid alot of money for it(my husband picked it out)and it just isn't working for me. Anyone looking for one?

It's raining,it's pouring and I'll soon be snoring
I just got home from a great afternoon garden tour of my friends sister in laws garden. We walked the garden with zinfindel in hand. As it rained we drank some more and ohhed and ahhed at the appropriate times and cheered on numerous occasions. The gardener then invited us indoors to drink some more wine and eat some nibblies she had prepared for the occasion. So much for making dinner for my husband and child....I must sleep now.....

A Lovely weekend indeed!
My boys headed off friday on a father/son camping trip. This would be a first that I would be alone at home for an entire weekend. Yipee!!!
The first thing I did was clean my house and put fresh flowers in all the rooms. Then did the sushi thing with mom , came home and read magazines. Saturday morning I got up early and went for a long bike ride. In the afternoon I went for a three hour kayak trip. Hot day! but great all the same. On the way home I bought some fresh veggies and crab, stopped to grab a bottle of red wine and a chick flick. Heaven! This morning(Sunday) I was up and in the garden by 8:00. It just doesn't get any better that!

I love a good deal
Ya gotta love a good deal. Actually it's more like I got ripped off last time. Nobody was holding a gun to my head I know. I picked up a healthy one gallon Euphorbia'Tasmania Tiger' up for $6.99 at Quality Foods tonight.
My mom treated me to a delicious dinner of Tempura Udon, sushi and a cold beer. Nummy!
The weekend is off to a great start.

Weekend in the garden
I have been so lazy lately that I've decided I am going to dedicate this weekend to work in my garden. I have been neglecting my compost pile too. I figure one or two days of serious puttering should bring it back to semi tidy. Happy Hour is always more satisfying if I actually accomplish something during the day.

Bob and Karolyn's garden
My friends Bob and Karolyn have a beautiful garden. Actually one of the most stunning I have ever seen. They are both very creative and talented. I phoned them Saturday evening to ask they would mind if I took some pictures of their gardens. They said sure and that Jerry Pavia(international garden photographer) had been there that morning. He was on holidays here and phoned a local garden center and they recommended this garden. Cool or what!!!! The next four pictures are from their garden and I will be taking alot more.
