Which Photoshop?

I now have finally purchased a new computer and want to invest in a Photoshop program. I'm not sure if I should buy the Photoshop Elements 4.0 or spend quite abit more on Photoshop CS. Yesterday I downloaded the free 30 day trial of Photoshop CS. Looks very complicated but not scary. I have no problem reading up on it or even taking a evening course at the college. The one thing about Elements is that will a person out grow it and want more??? Is Photoshop CS way to complicated and will you ever grow into it? I would love some opinions on this.

I have worked with both photoshop and elements. I would say that photoshop is basically for professionals whereas elements will do everything that a hobbyist/average person would need. I personally use elements 2.0 and have found that it can do everything that I used in photshop 7.0.

I have heard that elements 3.0 is the bomb! I might upgrade.

Hi, Sandy! These photos I am seeing of yours are fabulous. I have not played around much in photoshop yet (we have an ancient one) but would like to--what puts me off is wading through the program to figure things out...I am looking for Simple. What computer did you get? Mac? I will check out Elements 4.0. PS I got in! Before it would only let Blogspots comment, now I can comment as Other.

Good morning Judith, I'm glad I fixed my comment thing. I don't know why it was set up like that. I ended up buying a HP. We don't have a Mac dealer where I live and one day I just got impatient and saw a good deal and bought it.

It is amazing the things you can do with this photoshop. I want to start to shoot in RAW format so I would really like to learn all about it.

I have to try out Elements 4.0 after this to see which one I want. It is considerably cheaper.

I use PS 7, and have never used Elements so I can't comment on that one. PS does more than I will ever need to do and can be a bit complicated to learn but what I do use of it I love. There is a feature that may or may not be available in Elements. Its the export to web feature that allows you to play with compression amts, file types, sizes etc to get a balance between file size and quality. Also, the filters are great. Wish I had more time to play with them.
